Baddeck Community Wind Turbine

A certificate of approval was awarded to Scotian Wind under the Community Feed-In-Tariff (ComFIT) program of the Nova Scotia provincial government on October 16, 2013 for the Baddeck Community Wind Turbine Project. A public open house is to be held to share project information with the residents of the Baddeck area. This open house session will be the beginning of an open dialogue that we will pursue with the public in the project area throughout the development process.
This page is dedicated to holding documents and information for access by the general public and local residents to stay up to date on all aspects of project development. In the interest of transparency and public engagement, we will continue to add information to this page as we receive it. Do not hesitate to call or email us with questions regarding this project. See our contact information at the bottom of this page.

Project Documents

  • Certificate of Award
  • Environmental Impact Statement
  • An Environmental Assessment (EA) is a thorough investigation into ecological, archaeological and socio-economic impacts using methodologies defined under the Environment Act. In accordance with this act, wind energy projects 2MW or larger are required to undertake the EA process. In contrast, an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is a preliminary investigation into many of the same issues, based on existing environmental data, and a site survey. In accordance with COMFIT requirements, potential impacts identified in the EIS must be studied further to determine the effect of the proposed project, and respective management/mitigation plans. EIS work has been carried out for locations neighbouring this project and an updated EIS for this project will be carried out in the coming months. Any and all recommendations within the EIS will be followed by Scotian Wind Inc. during project development.
