Wedgeport/ June 6, 2012- Scotian WindFields Inc. will promote their Wedgeport wind turbine project through an Open House at the Fire Hall in Wedgeport on June 20 at 6:00pm. Individuals in attendance will have the opportunity to participate in an information session. The goal of the meeting is to provide an overview of project information and to answer questions that residents in the area might have about the local project.

Scotian WindFields received provincial approval for their single turbine project under the Community Feed-In-Tariff program. Under this program community-owned projects are approved to sell energy to Nova Scotia Power and distribute that energy directly through the local grid.

Scotian WindFields recently started testing the wind in the Wedgeport location to validate the potential for wind energy development at that site. The project is in the preliminary stages of assessment and study. Public consultation is a part of the long-term process of erecting the local turbine. Construction could begin in 2013 at the earliest.

Renewable energy projects like this one help Yarmouth County play its part in meeting the greenhouse gas targets that have been set by the provincial government. More wind energy projects mean less dependence on imported fossil fuels.

“We are looking forward to continuing the discussion with the people of Wedgeport area to share information and talk about the benefits of the Community Feed-In-Tariff program,” Dan Roscoe, Chief Operating Officer explained. “We find people are quite interested to learn about the unique attributes of the Nova Scotia program and the specific benefits of community-owned wind energy projects.”

“As well, Scotian WindFields takes its community commitment seriously and intends to bring tangible benefits to Wedgeport in the form of a Community Dividend,” Roscoe continued. “We have made a corporate commitment to dedicate 1% of gross revenue to Wedgeport and area community projects. I encourage people to join us at the open house to learn more about the benefits and opportunities.”

The Open House will take place at the Wedgeport Fire Hall on June 20 at 6:00p.m. Visuals and informative handouts will be available to those in attendance.
